One Line That Changed My Day

I’m a quality compliance manager for an architectural lighting distributor. I review every project delivery before it leaves our facility—roughly 200 fixtures a year. Now, every project delivery includes a one-page Replacement and Servicing Notice. It states whether the product is line-voltage, low-voltage, battery-powered, or hardwire-only. It includes a simple warning: if you are about to connect a lamp to a wall circuit, stop and confirm the product is allowed to receive line voltage. That five-minute check has already stopped three similar mistakes in the months since.
I also changed how our quality team reviews instructions. Before we release any high-risk fixture, we conduct what I call the “replacement test.” We hand the installation sheet to someone who hasn’t seen the fixture before and ask them to find the answer to one question: How do I safely change or service this light fixture?
